Taman Ayun Temple : The Sacred Complex Floating on Water

History of Taman Ayun Temple

Historically, when the newly completed consecrated in 1634, Pura Taman Ayun named Pura Taman Ahyun. Taman Ahyun derived from the word "Taman" which means garden, and the word "Ahyun" from "Hyun" which means desire. So Taman Ahyun, was temple that established in a garden that can fulfill the desire.
"Hyun" word then turn into "Ayun". But the meaning of Ayun is slightly different from Hyun. Ayun word meaning beautiful. So Taman Ayun means a park or garden that is beautiful or gorgeous.

Taman Ayun built in the 17th century precisely in 1634 by the first king of the Kingdom of Mengwi, Tjokorda Sakti Blambangan. He is supported by an architect who came from China. Courtyard of the temple arranged in such a beautifully and surrounded by the pond. In 1937 this temple was restored and decorated by some of "Meru" its towering and majestic.
